A HERITAGE THAT PRESERVES TRADITION

The artisans we work with share, like us, a deep appreciation for the history and significance of the Breton shirt. Their expertise, combined with traditional artisanal methods, ensures that the unique process of this iconic garment remains alive, honoring not only our region but also the cultural heritage of France itself.

Title

Materials

The production of each garment begins with a careful selection of raw materials. Each Breton shirt is made from high-quality cotton: soft and breathable, it allows the garment to maintain its shape while letting the skin breathe and providing unmatched comfort.

The Breton shirt 1858 is made using the traditional carded cotton technique, with raw cotton yarn, currently the only one still produced in France.

Title

Region

Our workshops are located in France and Portugal, two countries renowned for their textile heritage and excellence in haute couture. It is in Troyes, a city near Paris, that we manufacture the iconic Breton shirt from 1858.

Title

Knitting

At the heart of our Breton shirts is knitting, a compact technique of tight knitting created on circular or flat knitting machines. These machines alternate cotton yarn spools to form the iconic stripes while producing a fabric that is both strong and flexible.

In some cases, the garment is made in a single tubular piece, meaning the body has no side seams. This improves both comfort and durability. Knitting is an essential part of the process, as it defines the garment’s strength, comfort, and signature style.

Thanks to the knitting technique and the use of the highest quality cotton, we can guarantee the excellence of each piece.

Title

Cutting

The cut of the Breton shirt requires precision and the skilled hands of our artisans to ensure each piece retains its structure and iconic look. Once the fabric is ready, it is carefully arranged so that the stripe pattern aligns perfectly.

Our artisans trace the patterns by hand, making sure the lines remain continuous without distorting the fabric. They then perform three manual cuts: front and back body, sleeves, and collar, for a flawless finish. Before moving on to assembly, each piece is inspected again to ensure the stripes remain perfectly aligned.

Title

Tailoring

During the final stage of production, our artisans assemble each part of the Breton shirt: the body, the sleeves, and the collar. With exceptional precision, they align each stripe so that the seams fit together perfectly, thus preserving the harmony of the pattern. The seams, hand-stitched, not only strengthen the structure but also enhance the artisanal quality.

In this process, tradition and precision come together to ensure a flawless garment. The result is an iconic piece that combines durability and comfort with a timeless design, reflecting the true spirit of the Breton shirt.
